Beautiful Day

Isn't it interesting how talking with someone and sleeping can make so many things better?

I kind of got put into a mood last night. After posting my last entry and then reading posts and comments on Katrina and what so many are going through, I just couldn't go right to sleep. I went out to work on my laundry and quickly got drawn into the conversation with the slumber party girls.

You only know me from the web, so you may not be aware that, if there's one thing I can do, it's TALK. I am a story teller. Just about anything, anywhere, anytime. A LOT. (And veryvery fast!)

I forget exactly what was/were the topic/s, but around 2:00 a.m., my older-younger brother came home. (He's a pre-med senior, works, does sports, and is very involved with our church's youth group programs, so he's rarely home before then.) He lurked outside the front door for a little while to see if he could scare us. (and got a very satisfying reaction from O-Y Sister! Hee.)

He joined us for a while - which turned into, like, an hour and half! Started with dumb jokes (even knock-knock ones! Have you heard the follow-up to "Horton the Rudely-Interrupting Cow"?). Then we moved to quoting Abbott and Costello routines, (he's a HUGE fan, seen/listened to probably 20 hours of their stuff. Of course, we both have "Who's On First" memorized.)

And, then, somehow, we were quoting The Princess Bride.

That seems to happen a lot, actually.

In this case, all the girls knew the movie fairly well, but had never encountered someone who could quote/enact the entire thing and was willing to do so. Until last night. We didn't recite the whole thing, just bits and pieces, but covered a considerable chunk of it, none the less.

I wound up not going to bed until after 4:00 a.m., but I was feeling much better. I did choose to eat a - very little - piece of the cake late last night. But now I think I can avoid it for the rest of the time (still 2/3 to 3/4 left).

I still got up about 10:30 this morning, 'cause I've got lots to do.

1) Last night I recalled that this was the last weekend for our local Shakespeare in the Park's performance of Romeo and Juliet, so I made plans with a friend to take a picnic and go.

2) Various members of my dad's extended family are going to be in town today and we're all gathering together this afternoon for a somewhat impromptu family reunion. 3) I also am going to try to get in to donate at the blood bank sometime today. 4) And of course, the gym. So, I'm going to be all kinds of productive today!

Oh, and at some point last night, I completely forgot that I didn't have to go back to work on Monday. It was like a wonderful bonus surprise when I remembered.

I love weekends.
