New Stage of Life
Well, I was just about to master the "Empty Nest" stage, when I've been thrust rather abruptly into the next stage of life. And I'm afraid I'm really going to stink at this ! Welcome to the Era of Diplomacy. I didn't even get to experiment with being a Mother In Law, which is hard enough, and even harder if you have sons, I think... or rather, if you have a Daughter In Law.
That old saying, "A Daughter is a daughter for the whole of her life, but a Son is a son until he takes a wife." has been hanging over my head like a guillotine the past few years of worrying. I worked FAR TOO HARD on these two boys to lose them to some chit of a girl and her mother. That was my worry. I'm not saying this has happened, or that it will. But all the "fun" of raising boys and no girls really starts to sour at the very end of parenting, when you realize that "She" now runs your child, and that she "Owns" the grandchildren. So you'd better shape up in this Era of Diplomacy, or you don't get to see the little tykes !
"When Words are Many, Sin is Not Absent." - (Proverbs 10:19 - NIV 1984)
Oh how I have long HATED this verse !! I would like to point out, that it is not a "Reflexive Property" sort of thing - meaning that "when there are fewer words, there are fewer sins". Don't we all recognize that as a truth also ? One can sin in one's heart and thoughts at least as much as a talkative person. However, one who shuts up, doesn't spread those thoughts onto their subject. And that part of the verse doesn't even take into account plain boneheaded stupidity (mine). I get slammed again with the second half, "but he who holds his tongue is wise."
When I was about 12, I had a button which read, "Closed Mouth Gathers No Foot ". (Taken from "A rolling stone gathers no moss.")
Yeah, should never have lost that button.....
( Reader's Note: This post not meant to describe anyone at present. Things are going pretty well with both girls. But it's early yet. I have plenty of time to mess things up royally. )
