I just got back from my first belly dance class in about five years. I've been taking lessons off and on since I was sixteen, and I've really been wanting to get back into it lately. Unfortunately, there are NO instructors in Denton, so I had to look around a bit. There are several in Lewisville and a couple in Frisco, but oy! they were pretty expensive! I finally found a yoga studio in Lewisville that offers reasonably priced lessons, so I dropped in today. Since I'd been away for awhile, I took the beginner's class--and I'm really glad I did, 'cause right now my calves and thighs feel like jello...and I know I'm gonna be really sore tomorrow morning. A class at my actual experience level would probably have killed me! I don't mind suffering for my art--but dying for it's quite another matter.
The instructor was good, and the class was a lot of fun, but I felt like a fool at one point because I kept screwing up on the GRAPEVINE for crying out loud. >_< I CAN do a grapevine; I've been doing them for years and could probably do one in my sleep, but for some reason, THAT's what I kept screwing up on. I could do the step fine, but when we were supposed to reverse and go the opposite direction, THAT's where I'd fuck up. For some reason, I just kept wanting to go in that first direction. I finally got my feet to listen to my head, so I didn't make too big a fool out of myself. At any rate, I'm definitely going back next week.
