So, this weekend, I guess, has been the weekend o' movin'.
Grace and I got up late, due to our late return last night. We woke up to Maurice's and Cappy's occasional outbursts. I helped neighbor Hristo move out while Grace got some food.
First we went down to the H St. Farmer's market, and it was very nice. Got some produce and goat cheese (to replace the pilfered cheese from last week). Mmm, goat cheese.
Then Grace and I borrowed Tarek and Holly's bikes to head down to the American History museum. We got through a good chunk of it, but found our blood sugar levels dropping quickly. As a remedy, Grace took me to a place she knew nearby called "Teaism." And it was very nice. Had some great bento, some great sweet green tea and some AWESOME chai tea smoothies with ginger ice cream.
Went back to pick up my paystub at Cosi. Pete, in a demonstration of superhuman self-restraint, refrained from hitting on my sister. Stopped by to check out Eastern Market, but will return tomorrow when there's more going on.
Came home and hung out in the AC for while. It's beastly hot and muggy here. Ugh.
We went out to a Caribbean take-out joint up the street and got some veggies and fried plantains with some great ginger beer. Mmm...plantains with ginger beer.
Then we enlisted ourselves to help Helena (Maurice and Makalah's grandmother) move Tuloni's (M and M's mother) room from the basement to an upstairs room. Tuloni has been in the hospital for the last few days finally giving birth to twin boys (she'll be discharged tomorrow).
After the move we sat and talked to Helena (ironically enough, named after Helena Rubinstein) for a long time about her life. She told us that H St used to be a really classy affair until the 1968 riots. She had plenty interesting to say. Helena is a wonderful woman.
Now, it's bed time. In the AC. Oh, thank God.
