For Old Time’s Sake
If you owe a friend any money,
You’ll never have money to burn,
But if your buddy leaves before you pay your debt,
They may just have to return.
Money shouldn’t be a problem,
But we can’t leave home without it.
But this isn’t the first time in my life
That I don’t have money, and I’m not worried about it.
After all the work is done
I just want to go out and have a good time.
It takes a great friend to let me into the party
When I don’t even have a dime.
I never understood why people want to do something
One last time, just for old time’s sake,
I can’t forget someone’s leaving me, and I ask,
What difference does it make?
Whenever I need a little cash,
Only my real friends cut me any slack.
All of you must remember I can’t get to you,
And if you want me to repay you, you must come back.
Now I have one more request of you,
But if it works out, it won’t be my last.
Let me borrow ten dollars for old time’s sake,
And our last days won’t go by so fast.
