for an old friend, at a difficult time

A Bitter Pill
There are times in all our lives
When that glass of water just doesn’t seem as cold.
Sometimes all we can do is see the glass half-full
And hope for the best to unfold.

We all have goals and dreams,
That’s only the best-laid plan;
We hope everything goes smoothly,
But sometimes things go wrong, any way they can.

Save that half-glass of water,
You may need it to take a bitter pill.
When you feel things have to get better,
Know that someday soon, it will.

You wouldn’t expect to hear this from me,
It’s something I never thought I’d say,
But even I know when I can’t tell you
That I’m the one having a bad day.

Your friends are closer than you think,
Especially when you need them most.
We can’t always fix what ails you,
But we can make it easier to take that next dose.
