A Blessing in Disguise
Another old friend has told me
He took the leap and got engaged.
I’m so happy for him, but I look in the mirror
And my reflection seems enraged.

Life doesn’t seem fair sometimes,
But they say I’ll be surprised.
The last surprise I got seemed perfect
But she was so cleverly disguised.

As she walked away I saw the wolf
That was hidden within the sheep’s wool.
She never bared her teeth at me, but
It was in her eyes, she saw me as a fool.

I will never blame myself for what she did
Though I know it wasn’t the right time or place.
A beautiful smile can be so deceiving,
It can hide a menacing face.

I now know why she hasn’t come back.
For the same reason, I’m still alone.
I need to step out into the world
And start to embrace the unknown.

She has greatly changed my life
And she may never even realize.
Now that she’s gone, I can see behind the wolf.
I see that it’s all a blessing in disguise.
