Today is Samhain. I am little sad. We went to the Unitarian Universalist church yesterday morning. I don't recall if I've mentioned how we've been going to services there. The evolution of Unitarians and Universalists into the current situation is pretty fascinating. While the largest majority seems to be humanists, it seems like the pagans finding a home in the UU is what tipped the ecclesiastical balance and now the UU isn't even counted as a Christian denomination anymore.
The UU seem to do a lot of a good work, and do it in way that is more palatable to the status quo. I think the UU can do a lot more support for the poor than some of the more secular radical groups (like say Food Not Bombs). Something that a comrade pointed out in the wake of Hurricane Katrina was the relationship of the government to religious institutions, Hurricane Katrina, and the Good Churchgoers of the U.S. South; though I think it wouldn't really apply to the UU since they ( ... )
