Fat Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon *and* Tuesday

Tonight I dressed up as a garden/ flower pot by sticking large felt flowers in my hair, around my hat and in my coat button holes. I went out with an exuberant 6 year old dressed as El Zorro (BFF's step-son) and BFF's hubby in a gleefully over-the-top alien abductee costume. It's Carnaval in this part of the world and apparently that means silly costumes, parades and lots of walking around the city's historic district. We missed most of tonight's parade so we were mostly people watching while I soaked in the weight and feel of old buildings and streets. Even among the revelers we looked strange though because nearly all costumed folks were in clusters of identical or thematically complementary outfits. Lots of families were decked out as medieval lords and ladies and swarms of teenage girls were dressed as butterflies. It was insanely surreal to walk through a group of about 10 little kids and a couple of adults all in SpongeBob Squarepants outfits. I'd never seen a waist-high field of stiff yellow sponge children before.
