(Not quite) This week's Shii show - Hoshigumi Scarlet Pimpernel (sky stage version)

No review mainly some slightly sappy thoughts brought on by watching the Hoshigumi Scarlet Pimpernel (Tokyo raku version)

For me this is very much the zuka-show version of comfort food.

While I’ve come to appreciate the ever-changing nature of Takarazuka I *do* miss the 2007-09 Hoshigumi line-up from time to time. After all, together with Wataru they are what made me a Hoshigumi fan so it is comforting to see shows with all the "pieces" in their proper place.

This is also the one Hoshigumi show I’ve seen live and it was a core part of my Summer of 2008 gaijin meet up experience.

I came across this quote by David Duchovny on tumbler the other day:

“[Fandom] takes the place of some of the functions of a church in a small town: A place where people come together, ostensibly to worship something. But really what’s happening is you’re forming a community. It’s less about what you’re worshiping and more about, “We have these interests in common.” Someone has a sick aunt and suddenly it’s about that, raising money to help her or sharing resources to make her life easier. That’s what it was about with The X-Files on the Internet.”

This kind of mirrors my feelings for the 2006-2010 livejournal Takarazuka community. While we have floated away from livejournal and our relationship with Takarazuka have changed a bit or for some a lot, people are still around on facebook, twitter, tumblr and sometimes even here on livejournal. We might not interact more than a few times a year but it is comforting to see people around. (Hi there people!)

It is also nice to see a new crop of people around although I feel that they are probably part of a later incarnation of the Takarazuka community where I feel like an older aunt puttering around in the fringe trying to keep up with what the youngsters are doing. But I quite enjoy that version of community participation too, not making as strong bonds but acquaintances are nothing to sneeze at. They make life more enjoyable.

As for the show:

I like how many more people I recognize nowadays when watching this than I did in 2008.

Is it a good Shii show? So-so I would say, I like her role but being one member of the league doesn’t give her that much individual things to do. But I love her 20 seconds with Marimo in the garden scene.
