I can hardly believe how the past 3 weeks have flown by. It’s nearly August and I’m not sure where July went.
Coronation: Bloody HOT!! Managed to not get heat exhaustion, but did get a small sunburn. Spent most of Saturday in the Stromgard pavilion with Leif, sewing, chatting, etc. Saturday night partying was EPIC. Love to party with the Inga, it’s never boring, and it never gets old. Poor Inga and her chaffed cheeks from motor boating, and Ula, always the best sport about being motor/slowter boated. Sunday I spent the day on the erics water bearing for our crew, did some sitting in the shade, and hiding under Wren’s very pretty umbrella. Left site so tired, then couldn’t sleep on the way home. Home for a quick sleep and packing for Vikation, apparently the packing didn’t go so well, I made about a dozen trips home during Vikation.
Vikation: (Pictures on FB) Not so organized, it’s a good thing Leif was much more so than I or my family may have starved! I gave thought to breakfast, and booze, and not much else. I definitely needed a day or so to plan for everything. Leif did some dying, and lots of Norse cooking goodness, flatbread both hers and the sweet stuff my niece brought up were a win!! Picked up Eddy(ble) on Wednesday morning, by Wednesday evening he was wrapped in plastic and put on ice. I’ll spare you the details of his demise. Thursday was pig roasting all day, starting at 6am. The guys slaved over the hot fire all day literally! It was not a lets sit in the shade and check the pig every once in a while kind of job, they did awesome, and baked their brains as well. Eddy-ble was indeed edible, and in fact soooo good! Dave saved my ass on Thursday as well, when my mother reminded me that it was Casey’s Birthday on Friday I realized it was a “worst Mom in the world” moment. Dave went to town and bought a cake, plates, napkins, and even thought to buy a card “from” us. She was so excited to have everyone there for her birthday!! I made her a festoon of beads for her apron dresses and her day was complete! Thursday also saw a few of us headed up to Kalama Fair to do an equestrian demo for what amounted to about 20 people. Friday morning ended Vikation, which meant that the park was no longer a place to send the kids. Lane was done camping about now and the rest of the weekend meant lots of whining from him, and getting into trouble. Everyone was good natured about it but he was annoying and grating on the nerves.
Stormgods: When you leave the shaded meadow of Vikation, you realize its bloody hot!! AGAIN! Friday set-up was toasty, luckily we didn’t have to set up camp, which was nice. 11 horses showed for the event which was a good turn-out and very fun. It was too too hot by the time we got the horsie stuff on Saturday and everyone just did the stuff we had to and got the heck out of the sun. We didn’t end up doing any jousting, and we didn’t do any archery. I would love to move the horse stuff to early morning and late afternoon if the heat is going to be this bad next year. There was a quest that not many people got to do, and some people actually got in trail rides which is great. Once, just once, I’d like to have 75 degrees of perfect weather to play all day. Pack down on Sunday was fairly easy too, since most of us Vikationers left our tents up for the wedding next weekend.
Now I’m tired, cranky with the kids, and have a living room of crap to deal with, and that’s after 5 loads of laundry. The kids are cranky too, and need to get back on a schedule. Very excited for the wedding coming up and kind of dreading that the Clark County Fair is only 2 weeks away. I’m sure to not be ready for that either, and time is not slowing down. I’m not burning out, I just need a few days of down-time.
