i went backpacking this weekend. in the rain. =P
over the course of the weekend i learned a few things:
it's not the weather that can make or break the trip, it's the company you keep.
always bring extra socks. lots and lots of extra socks.
being in the mountains during or after a storm allows you to see things you normally wouldn't see, like fog settling in the valleys and temporary streams and waterfalls due to the runoff.
always carry a flashlight because you never know when you'll be hiking back in the dark.
take your time, as rushing only makes you more likely to slip on rocks and step in puddles.
the person who's following on the backpacking trip in the rain is just as crazy, or crazier, than the person who's leading the trip.
two crazy people make for a good weekend.
make sure the pack you're wearing fits you, not your brother who's six inches taller than you.
and finally
if you're waiting long enough for something, you might actually find someone who's waiting too. and that, my friends, is a good match.
