The Perfect Woman
By aishuu
Fandom: Doctor Who
Spoilers: Through Planet of the Dead.
Characters: Ten, Christina
Wordcount: 250
Summary: He could love a girl like her.

He could love a girl like her.

Lady Christina de Souza is everything he could want in a Companion. She's got the same bravery as Rose, Jack's flirtatiousness, Martha's intelligence, Donna's sass... if he thinks on it too long, he's going to see the best qualities of all his former Companions rolled up into one beautiful package.

It's like this woman was designed for him, the perfect opposite. And Time is a funny thing, placing her in his path only after he's reaffirmed the desire to remain alone. He doesn't think he can survive losing many more companions - while he still has several regenerations left, his heart has lived more than thirteen lives, and mourned for too many dead.

When she bounces over to the TARDIS, assuming that she's welcome to accompany him on the next great adventure, for a moment he has a vision of what the future could be. He imagines he hears the sounds of her footsteps as she keeps pace beside him, righting the wrongs of the universe for the sheer thrill. He imagines verbally sparring with her as they chart a random course through the universe, and though she'll never win an argument, she'll never back down from the attempt. He can imagine being beside her for years, and the way her love of wandering and challenge someone fills the void created by too many Companions left behind.

He could love a girl like her, so that's why The Doctor says no.
