A friend sent me this. So here goes. This was really hard. Like choosing between my children hard.
01) The classic desert island question: supposing you were banished to a desert island, and only allowed to take 1 album with you, which one would it be?
Right now it's a toss between Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" and a live album of Ben Folds' stuff. Lyrics for life kind of stuff.
02) What song do you associate with your first real love?
Funny enough, the fat girl polka. We used to go drinking at an old fashioned German ale house alot. I mean alot. They had a live polka band on Saturday nights. After that, Ben Folds' "Fred Jones (II)." He used to borrow that album to listen to.
03) Name the song that never fails to cheer you up.
George Michael's "Kissing a Fool." When I'm really down, I'll play his greatest hits album and sing along, alone in my bedroom. Maybe dance a little dance.
04) Name the song that never fails to (almost) make you cry.
Ani DiFranco's "I'm Not Angry Anymore." Someday I will get to that point.
05) What song will get you up on the dance floor?
"Hey Now" by Outkast. I love that chorus.
06) What's your favourite smoocher?
Bright Eyes' "First Day of My Life." It's going to be my wedding song.
"If you want to be with me/We'll just have to wait and see/But I'd rather be working for a paycheck/than waiting to win the lottery."
07) What's your favourite album sleeve/artwork/cd stomp/whatever?
The White Stripes' "White Stripes" (?) album. It was the album right before they hit it big. It looks like a peppermint candy that's been slightly used. Fresh and not fresh.
08) Do you remember the first single/album/cd you ever bought?
Do I have to admit that? I can't remember if it was The Party from the MMC or MC Hammer (hangs head in shame).
09) Is there a lyric that holds special meaning for you?
Ani DiFranco's "I'm not angry anymore." Basically any song that she hits dead on has relevance for me, but this song especially guts me. After that, Ben Folds' "Best Imitation of Myself."
10) Out of all the songs you know, which do you most wish you had written?
Cake's "Love You Madly." It cracks me up every time I hear it because it is the dirtiest song I know while never crossing the PG line in language. Metaphors at their best, baby!
11) What music did your parents listen to when you were growing up?
Oldies and country. I remember a lot of Beach Boys and Reba McIntyre and Billy Dean.
12) Who were your favourite band/was your favourite artist when you were in your teens? In your twenties? Thirties?
Teens: Weezer and Barenaked Ladies
Twenties: Beatles, Matchbox Twenty, local bands
Thirties: Ani DiFranco, Bright Eyes, Elliot Smith, White Stripes
13) If you could have played in any band, which band would you choose and what instrument would you play?
The Mammas and the Pappas. I love their harmonies. To misquote Clark Kent, "The tambourine is mine, b*t@h!"
14) Do you remember your first ever concert?
Yes. Nsync at a county fair and it's still one of the better shows, in terms of showmanship, that I have been to.
15) What would you say is the best guitar solo you've ever heard?
This is kind of a silly question, because the answer almost always has to be Hendricks' solo for the Nat'l Anthem, doesn't it? Everything else after that is asleep.
