hey guys!been away for some time now because i have been working all over the place, started a new(and amazingly better)relationship and have just been generaly busy and not around a computer.just letting ya'll know i am still alive and doing ok.
Have had some health problems of the neurolgical type recently and am worried about driving/working...actualy driving a car is probly more dangerous than driving a train!since when i do drive a train it's only for a power test to make sure it takes power..i drive it like 15 feet in each direction, then do a bunch more other checks,inspections,repairs...i dont know, working on the railroad isnt as hazardous as one may belive, the worst is probably the 3rd rail on the new york side.you dont want to fall on that!700 volts DC!and they are all over the place!go and see my myspace myspace.com/christinaquicksilver for pictures of this 3rd rail.
I guess the 3rd rail kinda worried me because last week i was on nightshift in Harmon new york.it was dark and i was sleep deprived, the 3rd rail was everywhere(as you'll see in the pics)and yes, sometimes you do have to cross over it...but i found a way where i could get to each train without stepping over it.the guys could not understand why i didnt want to walk across the yard..they all did it...well you know,it was snowing that night as well...even someone with normal wiring in their head would have trouble seeing, and well not sleeping..you get the idea.i just said, listen,it's a preventative measure, there are walkways, and you walk on them to get out of the way of the 3rd rail!
working in CT yards are pretty safe as long as you dont get run over by a train, they do come by and they are quiet, but i never work alone and always wear my orange reflective jacket and hard hat.all we do in the yard is inspections, minor repairs and power tests, the shop is more invoved, but even that, the trains are usualy powered down, powering them up is a different story, sometimes you have to do it,ah well, point being,i think everything is going to be ok.I just make sure i sleep enough, eat as well as i can and try not to get stressed.easier said then done, but i got my insurance so i'm going to go see a neurologist as soon as i get the time and courage.i am afraid to go.i will not lie about that...danm,god made me an electrician, wish i had a volt meter and tool set small enough to fix the messed up wires in my head...i often find myself comparing myself to a mechanical device.if you think about it,we do kinda work the same way...and well,my circuits are fried!last night was kinda way to long...thats another story in itself
hope everyone else is well!
