I found this interesting seed head of a very robust grass growing in a vacant field today.  It is quite interesting as it is obviously wind dispersed seedlings attached to a head…very reminiscent of a dandelion seed head, just much larger (roughly 4″ diameter).

The internet has been down for the campus for two days.  It was estimated that 26k people in Richmond were without electricity (that’s bad for a city of 30k).

Alumni Colliseum was turned into an emergency shelter for those who had no electrical service.

In celelebration of Australia Day, I made a delicious Kiwi/Strawberry/Blueberry Pavlova.

Pavlova (abbreviated ‘pav’) are a traditional Australian dessert made of a meringue disc topped with whipped cream and fruit, and is incredibly light.  A good pavlova’s texture will be ( Read more... )
