So the last week or so I've set down the regular harp exercises in order to learn a couple of simple songs to play at O'Choda's Summer Gather in a couple of weeks.
One of these songs called "Simply Sixths" uses major sixth chords/intervals as the primary characteristic of the song. It sounds beautiful...but sixths also played with the thumb (finger 1) and the middle finger (finger 3).
Proper harping technique is to keep the fingers that are not used in playing tucked in close to the palm. So in this piece, I'm constantly giving "the bird". I realize this is to give the maximum "stretch" one needs between the strings, but really?!
Ah well, hopefully folks will be closing their eyes in bliss instead of looking at my hands.
On another note (haha), I got myself music stand, and I can't believe I lived without one for so long by setting the lesson book on my lap/knee.
