So all of the sudden I was smacked upside the head by my muse and I managed to finish a picture that I couldn't ever get past sketches before AND added about 4 pages to my long forgotten fanfic that I WILL make myself finish one of these days. I blame my sudden inspiration on the beautiful weather we have been finally getting up North here in good ol' Wisconsin. It's been high 50s to mid 60s all week and I'm loving it!
So anyways, I have been wanting to do an illustration for a fic that I read awhile ago and I decided that it would be perfect for the "background challenge" that has been going on over at
hp_fringeart. The fic is over at Portkey.org if you are interested (yes, I ship PumpkinPie! and proud of it!) The story is called 'Potions' by Bentheslayer and it is a cute little post-OoTP one-shot. Here is a brief description so that you understand what the drawing is about:
The trio are in N.E.W.T. level potions and Snape (much to his disgust) is teaching them the basics of love potions. During class the students brew the Cupid's Draught, which as quoted from the text is, "The Cupids Draught enables the drinker to determine who their heart truly desires; when brewed correctly, the drinker finds a blue glow emanating from their body whenever they are in the presence of their true love." So needless to say Snape makes Hermione drink her potion to make sure she brewed it correctly (there's an interesting side effect otherwise) and after Hermione returns to her seat between her two best friends she begins to glow....
Character(s): The trio, Draco, Pansy, Padma, Hannah Abbot and Ernie MacMillan
Content: A scene in a potions class (from a fanfiction, see explanation below)
Rating: G
Link or LJ cut:
"Hermione plonked herself down between Harry and Ron once again, looking quite relieved as Snape called up Draco to test his potion.
"Don't know what you were worried about-" Ron began, but then his eyes widened. Harry turned to see what had cut Ron off and his mouth opened in surprise. From the front of the Room Draco began to laugh gleefully, pointing at Hermione.
"Who's it for, Granger? Potter or Weasley?" he shouted, roaring in laughter.
Hermione's entire body was giving off a soft blue glow, bathing Harry, Ron and everything in a three foot radius in it's light. Hermione looked terrified, holding her hands up and gazing in shock at the blue light coming off her."

Would you like constructive comments? Yes!So.... what do you think? This is probably the busiest drawing I have ever accomplished. I always want more people, but the more I add, the more messed up it usually gets. I know that I'm still not that good with positioning bodies, and hands, etc. How does the perspective look? I used a vanishing point to draw the tables, but the people in the back seem too small, what do you think? There's only so much I can easily fix at this point, but still it's good to know for next time.
Is this a WIP (Work In Progress)? Yes, I plan on coloring it...
Coloring...obviously this needs to be colored so that it makes more sense for the scene. I was wondering if anyone had any good tips to give me on that. I was going to color it in Photoshop, but I'm not sure the best way to to the ambient lighting from Hermione glowing...any ideas, tips, etc.? I would love to hear ideas.
Notes:
Well, thank you for looking. Also if there is anyone interested in reading the entire story, it's really quite cute: here's the site:
