Random things!

One podcast recommendation, one very mild prediction, one trip to the library, and one thing I left out of a recent post.

Wizarding Wireless, my favorite Potter podcast, just did a reading/discussion of The Keys to His Soul in episode 27. And no, it's not my favorite podcast just 'cause they mentioned this blog in the last couple episodes. I've actually been a member of their forum for a long time (I'm member #7!)-- look back the archives there and I believe you will see a period of a few days when it was just Frank and Noelle and me discussing which Harry Potter character was analogous to Saved by the Bell's Screech. (That's just a random memory, mind you. The forum is typically much more book-focused and much less wacky-TV-sidekick-focused.) Now they've got close to 200 members, and a really nice forum community with a diverse group of posters.

Why is it my favorite Potter podcast? 1) Reading through all of the books and discussing them seems like kind of a no-brainer as a podcast format, but the fact that Frank and Noelle were the only ones who pulled it off before Deathly Hallows should be a clue that it's actually a challenging project. But they did it! Quite impressive. 2) Great chemistry between the hosts-- not saccharine, not mean. Just people who are good friends and love Harry Potter. 3) Good audio! I don't have to tweak the volume up and down constantly, and I can actually hear what they're saying. 4) If I try to think of an analogy for the show, I keep coming back to fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies delivered free to your house every week. Who wouldn't want that? Only horrible people and the gluten-allergic, that's who.

(Please note that I am not calling people with gluten allergies horrible. Separate groups.)

I've been thinking about all the theories I've heard in the past two years, and the Ministry really hasn't come into them much. Which is odd, especially when you consider that the Ministry-run Apparition test is almost certainly going to be in the story. (The test has been mentioned two books in a row, and Harry mentioned that he'd be taking his during the summer.)

Side note along those lines: If Ernie MacMillan has any part left to play, Harry and Ron might see him when they go to take their tests. Ernie, Harry, and Draco were the only three young enough to be left behind in potions class when everyone else was taking their Apparition tests.

Good thing I put in a request for the Deathly Hallows audiobook at the library a few months ago. Here's the current status:

Yeesh. If everybody ahead of me keeps the CDs out for the maximum allowed time, I may not be listening to them until very late this year. Or early next year, if some copies get lost or stolen.

When I talked about my guess for the last sentence of the last book in a recent post (very mild spoiler there, if you consider knowing whether or not the last word is still "scar" a spoiler), I left something out. And it's one of my favorite things!

It would be really cool if the Mirror of Erised turns up in the Room of Requirement because it would be the mirror that shows you what you want in the room that gives you what you need. See how that works? I'd love that.
