The most marvelous bad idea...
For quite some time now, I've been collecting giant microbe plushies. (http://www.giantmicrobes.com) I've only been getting the regular-sized ones, though the mini petri-dish ones have been tempting me for months. We have now reached critical mass, as they've started making mega giant microbe plushies--they're a good 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall. And I have the most terrible urge to go buy a pair of giant Black Death plushies (or a pair of syphilis plushies, whatever) and use them as fencing weapons so I can gain a reputation for fighting with a raging case of the Black Death (or syphilis--I think either is pretty damn funny). (Fighting with two swords is called "case" in the SCA, btw.) *huge grin* It'd be totally period!
