The little aul fella in the corner playing the banjo..

People who do not live here could never understand how hard it is for someone from Dublin (or Ireland for that matter), to utter those three special little words..

I don't drink.

Because if you do, you are immediately faced with a seemingly neverending barrage of questions including:

a)Do you need money?

b)Are you sick? (On antibiotics etc.)

or c)Are you pregnant? (Obviously applies mainly to girls.)

Now I do drink (I have the entries on this very journal to prove it), I just don't drink all the time. In a month I'd maybe drink once or twice and sometimes not at all. This is a fact that seems to mystify my co-workers and indeed prompted my boss to tell me that I needed to "get a life." When my Uncle Emmett passed away recently at his funeral I tried to explain this to my cousins. All they could do was stare at me in shock and ask me "Why the fuck not?"

And why do I not drink? (or at least not that much blah blah blah.) Well for numerous reasons inclu?

a)My IBS is sometimes a biatch
b)It can make me tired
c)It can make me agressive
d)Sometimes money is an issue
e)Sometimes I'm just not in the mood and/or am washing my hair.

All I'm saying is only in Ireland would you need a list of reasons as to why you choose to not drink.
