Gradually, winding paths inlaid with malachite and jade emerge from the undergrowth. The weather and simple feel of the Gardens grows ever more vernal, and soon enough the paths lead to the center of this feeling: the Viridian Pavilion. Gently sloping marble paths lead up to a strange sheltered platform, some kind of cross between a gazebo and an outdoor cathedral. Inside, the floor sports floral patterns made of semi-precious gems. That's only a taste of the color here. The stone columns that rise from it do not quite form walls. Some are more like sculptures (of fairies and flowers, naturally) than pillars; others hold panes of colored glass. The whole place is neither indoors nor outdoors. Flowering tree branches form what is almost a roof, and strange pink and blue petals drift down to be swept away across the dance floor. Elaborate glass lanterns that burn with pale blue and gold flames bathe it all in an ethereal light, a replacement for the moon that is not there.

To the sides of the pavilion proper are long stone benches at tables that brim with light but delicious foodstuffs. Strange soups and salads, airy breads and colorful pastries with all sorts of fillings, intricately sculpted chocolates with truffle centers...they all blur the line between supper and dessert. Meanwhile, paths lead away from the food and the dance into little pockets of privacy amidst the tall flowers behind the pavilion, with comfortable benches strategically provided in each.

Oh, yes, and then there is the aforementioned dance floor: smooth and round and huge, it rings melodically with each footsteps upon it. A small pedestal rises at its center, and on it there rests an egg the size of an adult's fist. But this is no ordinary egg. It is made entirely from metal clockwork and glass, and gears can be seen turning within it. A variety of music lilts from it: sometimes a slow and romantic ballad, sometimes a fast and catchy air.

The creatures that guided the ball's guests to their places have not vanished, but they are no longer hostile. Instead, they move about the Pavilion offering food and drink (the finest of wines) to those in attendance. They'll let guests leave if they so desire--after all, the festivities will go on for several days--but after a while, the deserters will find themselves being dragged back...
