I had my first sub job today instead of tomorrow--a half day with a class full of 1st graders. Elementary school subbing has been the biggest o___o thing for me, so I thought I'd get my feet wet with a half day, test the waters so to speak, get my footing ( Read more... )

bitch bitch bitch, do i really need a real life tag?, jobbing

Oh, man... teachers have all the respect in the world from me, but I think that elementary school teachers (especially for the younger grades) have all the respect in the universe from me. Trying to corral multiple little people who until recently had nothing to do but play, and who are now being called on to sit still and learn? I can't even imagine. So yay you! And think how much easier tomorrow is going to be. :-) Good luck!

DUDE, it hadn't really clicked until you said it that these guys are literally coming off an entire year of arts and crafts at school, JESUS CHRIST NO WONDER THEY DON'T WANT TO LEARN. *lightbulb*

Just got done with today! It was a complete one-eighty, I had an entire day of watching people do busywork. Bored to tears. (But kinda grateful.) Tomorrow I bring laptop!

One girl asked me, "What if I get bored," like, "What if I got the PLAGUE and DIED.")

LOL They are so over-dramatic at that age!

and another kid shockingly lost the lightsaber from his luke skywalker lego after throwing it around the room,

Shocker! Who would have thought such a thing could happen?!

Yeah, when I read stuff like this I wonder how I did it every day for nearly ten years (preschool age kids but still, the same kind of random chaos).

Go rest yourself, darling!

SUPER dramatic. Another girl ran up to me at one point shouting "[ANOTHER GIRL] KISSED ME ON THE CHEEK" when i was in the middle of about a million other kids' crises and so I absently said, "Aw, that's sweet of her," and they all stopped and gasped in horror and went, "KISSING IS NOT ALLOWED." jfc

I am amaaaaaazed at you bb. *bows down*

Yep, kissing is NOT allowed. They didn't have those rules back in my day (lol, I sound so old when I say it like that!) but nowadays, you hear crazy stories about first graders getting expelled for kissing. Some schools even have rules about hugging. I mean, otoh, my little brother got tackled to the ground everyday in first grade and kissed by this girl that he did NOT like (and I still don't know why after a few incidents of that, the teacher never sat her down and talked about her behavior) but otoh, really? Kissing on the cheek is not allowed? Come on, peoples!

I am amaaaaaazed at you bb. *bows down*

LOL Thank you! I was so much younger back then. Now I feel all accomplished when I make it through two hours with two kids.

*tries to keep a straight face*

I feel for you...

XD But seriously, you believed someone when they told you watching elementary school kids would be light work? Ahahaha. Ahem, sorry. This comes from someone who was an AuPair for a year and had to watch three kids, two of which were six- and ten-year-old boys, whose favorite pastime was trying to kill each other.
The ten year old did wrestling and could honestly take me down without too much trouble.
The six year old once pulled a knife on me.
But really nice kids otherwise.

;)
