I've been getting some writing done, so whee! Expect some Sam/Dean fic before the 25th, because that's when it's duuuue

Guys, I just have to talk about last night's episode of Elementary, and how much I love it, and how much I love this SHOW

ughughugh thing the first: sick!Sherlock. HOW...SMALL IT MADE HIM? Or maybe small is the wrong word, how...fragile almost, how human? The way he hunches in on himself and speaks quieter--a lot of sick main characters become loud and obnoxious and they get away with it because they're sick, and instead JLM acted like an ACTUAL SICK HUMAN BEING, one who moves carefully because moving takes a lot of effort, and talks quietly because their voice hurts, etc.

I JUST LOVED IT A LOT. And the way he says, "No, I am British, this is not tea." And then Joan schools him on tea because hahahaha it's not like China and Japan have hundreds of YEARS of tea history too. And when it worked instead of shrugging it off, he RESEARCHES CHINESE HERBAL REMEDIES. JUST. HE LEARNS IN A WAY THAT SO MANY OTHER SHERLOCKS (coffbenedictcoffff) REFUSE TO.

Because BBC!Sherlock might admit that he needs more information, but spends moooost of his time refusing to acknowledge that John has anything to offer other than a mediocer point of view with occasional blips of insight that allow Sherlock to take that blip and turn it into a full-blown symphony of smart. He's arrogant in a slightly mean way, whereas E!Sherlock's arrogance...dissipates more rapidly, and comes out of a genuine frustration that he can't help these victims faster (would you ever see BBC!Sherlock re-examining a case because he felt bad that a woman would be deported and taken from her infant daughter? If he did--for that reason--he would never admit it out loud.)

wow, okay, thing the second: uh, this is not a happy thing, but it's not a problem with the show so much as a slight problem with the fandom. I..........dislike the idea of shipping Sherlock/Detective Bell in a way that I have to struggle not to rageface about. (I'm getting there! I don't like being so upset about a pairing other than Destiel and so I'm learning to breathe deep and let it go.) Obviously, OBVIOUSLY, people are allowed to ship whoever they like.

But.

I feel that, if you are shipping this pairing because you need two dicks in a relationship to be interested in it...you should maybe have a good long think about why that is. If you love Sherlock/John but can't ship Sherlock/Joan because she has ladybits in this incarnation...why.

If you're genuinely shipping this pairing because you find their (extreeeeemely limited) dynamic fascinating and wish to explore that in a sexual light, by all means! But just be careful you aren't falling into the stereotypical fannish rut of marginalizing female characters because you don't personally feel attracted to them (it's LUCY LIU! Reevaluate your choices.)

/gets off soap box

And in conclusion: LOVE THIS SHOW, I LOVE THIS SHOW, I LOVE THAT HE WAITED WITH HER FOR HER LOST CAUSE, I LOVE THAT THAT FAILBOAT WAS NEVER HER CLIENT, I LOVE E V E R Y T H I N G

p.s. in other news, i will actually get off my ass and get those christmas cards addressed today...*facepalm*

elementary, thinky thoughts, epirant
