If you worry about these details, you'll only end up writing more fanfic to fix it. Do you really have that much time??
I am SO not good at picking out the details of this show, I'm too wowed by the pretty! I didn't even realize why Steve might care if Danny was "going someplace," it just mystified me.
In some discussion of the whole MREs in the truck thing, people remarked that Steve's truckload of SEAL gear is stupid, but I think it's one of the few things that's NOT over the top about the show. :) I totally understood. When I moved out of a rural area and bought a MUCH more reliable care, I still kept a pile of stuff in the trunk, including the wire coat hanger -- good for wiring up the exhaust pipe -- and the ever useful vise grips, which I'd used for multivarious things in the past.
How could Steve, after living his whole adult life able to depend on only on what he could carry, let those things go by the wayside after six months in civilian life? Especially now that he's got a truck to put them in?
Seriously, FOOD. I can think of lots of ways to at least rationalize the MREs; this was survival for him.
I honestly had not a single problem with Steve's emergency trunk items. Did not even cross my mind. And now some people are all OHHHHH THE PLOT DEVICESSSS and seriously, whatever. Steve believes in being prepared, okay? Like a boyscout. Or a man with a condom. (Or a woman with a condom.)
But I will never ever ever discourage you from writing fic. So I think if you feel you need to write out your frustration, then DO ITTT.
OH OH OH *FACEPALM* I FORGOT TO MENTION: GUESSSSS WHAT CAME IN THE MAAAAAAIL TODAAAAAAAAAAAY *TACKLE GLOMPS*
It is the cutest freaking postcard ever, and I'm going to make a post about it as soon as I find my camera. YOU EVEN FOUND A POLAR BEAR STAMP TO REMIND ME I LIVE IN PALINVILLE. XDDD *SMOOSH*

I think I'm going to write that one.
