Quick post tonight b/c I'm beat, and I need to go to sleep soon so I can be nanny-rific in the a.m.
I love maps. I keep fantasizing about getting a large map and putting pins or something for all the places I've been. Today, after getting lost in near-downtown SA again (I keep forgetting that San Antonio has never even met the grid system, so I keep expecting streets to make sense. Silly me.), I got myself a handy-dandy Rand McNally atlas of SA and the surrounding Hill Country. Yeah!
I'd gone to near-downtown SA to a place called Hogwild Records to post a sale sign for BvB (see previous posts for full name). Chris, my BIL, suggested the idea, pointing out that it'd be a great van for a band, and Hogwild is pretty much *the* record store that alternative and heavy metal band members would frequent. The boys were lovely and cut the strips for me. That whole polite/friendly thing is really one of the best aspects of southern culture, I think.
I also spent nearly an hour practicing my fledgling stick-shift skills by driving throughout our neighborhood. I can now routinely shift w/out significant whiplash and/or killing the engine. I can also get into first gear uphill w/out rolling (much) but I am still burning rubber in the process. I came to a stop in the middle of a hill and confused this poor guy in a red truck. He finally rolled down the window to ask if he could help me b/c I was just sitting there waiting for him to move. When I told him that I was practicing driving a stick shift, he very quickly said that he'd just get out of the way, then. Smart man. Unfortunately, the performance anxiety proved too much, and I really burned rubber on that one. Oh well.
So much for a short post. Going to bed now. yawn.
