I... don't really find the house nanny that offensive. Maybe that means I'm racist, but it's just that I don't even see her as a stereotype anymore. There were a lot of old stereotypical "Black-face" cartoons that have pretty much been destroyed by new progressive ideas, and that's good.
But!
The housekeeper in Tom and Jerry is an individual, and while she probably cow-tows to whatever fictional people owned the house at the time, she's in a position of authority. She controls Tom and Jerry, and people in the house respect her wishes. She's funny, and she's believable, and I've never once while watching one thought "haw haw, she's dumb, let's laugh at her!"

I don't really think either should be edited out, just like I think that the old war cartoons shouldn't be impossible to get your hands on. Different time periods, different rules, if nothing else it will spark a conversation about how things were not always the way they are now, which is something that I've discovered a supprising amount of people don't know.
It just seemed that on the list of things most likely to draw PC ire, the housekeeper should come before the smoking, is all.
