I just finished reading Mansfield Park, the Jane Austen novel for people who don't like Jane Austen novels. Needless to say, I loved it.
The first Jane Austen novel I ever read was Pride and Prejudice, because I had to read it for a class. At the time, I had a hard time relating to the characters and their upper-class problems.[*](In regards to the Bennet family, I seem to remember making a comment during class discussion along the lines of, "Quit whining and get a job," which I realize in hindsight was rather callous of me.) Fanny Price may be a less spunky heroine, but at least I can sympathize with her troubles.
Now I'm rereading Frankenstein, in anticipation of this.[*]SQUEE!
