With all the other upsetting things going on in the world at the moment, I almost forgot what day it is today.
About a year ago, I ordered a copy of The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later. I had kind of a half-baked notion of getting the band back together, so to speak; reuniting our cast to do something similar yet different.
But I don't think it would serve my purpose. I don't think it stands very well on its own. Ironically, one of the major motifs is how the community itself has tried to forget or deny the murder, to reframe the story to serve its own needs, which only serves to underscore how much we need The Laramie Project.
Matthew's story needs to be told. We have made some significant victories within the last five years, but people need to be reminded, over and over again, until they understand that this is a matter of life and death.
