There is a program my audiologist is looking into getting for me. He said it isn't used for adults because usually their brain is already "set". They do use it for kids. Those kids who have success with it can hear up to 30% better. The way it works is through a computer program that plays a lot of noise and adds conversation in. You work on it half an hour a day and your brain learns to work on the filtering. However, like I said, not used for adults. But I kinda begged. If he can get his hands on it for me then I will try that.
Realistically a high end hearing aid will be my best bet. He said cheap ones will only amplify all noise, but that the high end devices know how to amplify speech.
Also, he gave me a ton of tips to either do myself or let other people know. I've been implementing it at work. It is helping. I work in a very loud office (tons of college kids in and out at all times) so it's kind of been exciting to try different techniques.
