Oh man, I had this whole gigantic rant typed up, but I think it would be better for me to direct my rage at someone in the head offices of Starbucks Canada, so I am just going to say this here: I have an unexpected day off tomorrow, and probably on Monday as well, thanks to the G20 protesters who decided that peace is for pussies. All of the windows and the glass doors of my store were smashed in. There were employees and customers inside at the time, because Starbucks, in all of its infinite wisdom, and despite the advice of countless police officers in the weeks leading up to the G20 summit, decided to keep most of its downtown Toronto stores open this weekend.
I was not at work today, thank god, but my coworkers who were are all, understandably, very shaken up. If you guys have a minute and a good thought to spare, please send them in the direction of downtown Toronto right now. Not just for my coworkers, but for all of the police who are working their asses off trying to keep the peace, for all the store owners of local independent businesses who have lost money because they've been forced to close down or because of damages to their stores and merchandise, and to all of the people who feel that violence is the only legitimate way to have their voices heard.
