Reaction to 8x16, "Remember the Titans"

So I didn't post a reaction to last week's ep because, honestly, I had nothing much to say about it. This week's ep would have been the same if not for the presence of some figures straight out of Greek myth. Do you people have ANY idea how long I've been waiting for them to dive in to Greek mythology?!?! I know we had Mercury (Hermes) in "Hammer of the Gods," but that's really it. I adored Greek myths as a child--they were the first myth stories I ever read, and they escorted me to a lifetime love of myths from all over the world. But Greek myths still figure large in my heart--I even took two courses on Greek myths in college (one on the myths, one on art related to the myths) just to get to fall in love with them all over again. So finally, FINALLY SPN gets some Greek gods into the mix! And how did they do? Mmmm...I give them a B. They did great with Prometheus and okay with Zeus. Artemis? Not so much. But I'll only touch on that--I want to save the majority for my inevitable presentation about myths and SPN at this year's Winchest Midwest, whenever that will be ;)

I will say this though: seeing the eagle eating Prometheus' liver right at the beginning made my heart SOAR because I knew that the writers had done their homework :) But then of course they had Artemis falling for Prometheus, a male god, when she would never, ever stoop so low as to fall for a guy, much less a Titan...meh. Like I said, they got her wrong. Don't even get me started on what she was wearing! Shenanigans! But meh, at least they got Prometheus right, though they never DID explain why he couldn't remember anything. And why didn't anyone bother to bring up the fact that hello, cute little Oliver is a demi-god? Sure, fine, he got cured of his curse, but he's gonna have powers now, HELLO?!?! Sheeshery. Some people's kids.

The Sam and Dean stuff was fairly meh as well. Sam's lying, badly, and Dean sees right through it of course. And that talk in the car, where Sam admitted he was now worried about dying while during the trials, made me roll my eyes. Honestly, Sam, what did you think you were getting into with these trials? I really loved his speech a few weeks ago where he said he was doing it for Dean, so that Dean would get to live out a long life, too, but didn't it ever occur to you, Sam, that this was going to be DANGEROUS and you might not make it? That whole scene was so awkward--I don't blame JP, I blame the writing, because it was really clunky dialogue and it was very shoe-horned in. Seriously, compare that to Dean's earnest prayer for help for his brother. Spoken from the heart, sounded very Dean...that was good writing. More of that, please, Show.

Okay, break's over, so one final thing: that line that Sam gave about who do they know who who is angry, dies a lot, and has a history of sleeping with bad women, and Dean shot back, "You?" I laughed so hard that Galahad jumped clear off the couch in surprise :) Hehehehe. Nice one, Show.

So yeah, a fairly meh episode, but at least I got to enjoy some Greek myth geekery :) What did you think of it?

shennanigans!, galahad, supernatural
