This is a letter I wrote to the President of my school. Let's take a little vote Let me know if you think I am going to get to bipass the system and get the two classes dropped.
Dear President. Murphy,
My name is Joe Hauser and I am currently a sophomore here at Nichols College. I am writing to you today because I feel as though you are the only person who can help me. A little over 2 months ago I had my second reconstructive shoulder surgery, and because of that I not only missed the entire football season, but also I missed over 3 weeks of school due to recovery time and pre and post-op doctor's appointments. Because of my extensive absenteeism, I was not able to fulfill the rigors of my workload. Of the five classes I was taking, there were 2 that I could not pass: American Literature and Statistics I. Professor Steglitz and I both agreed that I had missed too much subject matter, and decided I should drop the class. While Professor Wagner was willing to work with me and understood my plight, the work I missed was to great, and if I had continued to stay in that class, I feel the rest of my grades would have suffered. After consulting with my advisor, Carol Woods, I learned that I could only drop one of the classes, and because of another post-op check up, I missed the last date to drop either class.
I don’t feel that my situation is one that can be dealt like any other. And as of right now I feel I am being punished for bad luck. My request to you President Murphy is that you allow the two classes to be withdrawn from my records. Up until this point I have been on the dean’s list, and even done well this year in the classes I was able to catch up in.
I plan to move back to Rhode Island next semester so that I can rehabilitate my shoulder with my physical therapist, and intend to continue school at Rhode Island College. But with these two failures on transcript my chances are greatly reduced. I thank you for your time and hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely
Joseph Hauser
