This is the beginning of the second Chapter of the book. Just to water your mouths. The main character is Nika modeled after my sister Danielle lj SJ936 Let me know what you all think.
As Nika walked down the cool marble floors of the chamber of words her gold and ruby hair shimmered. Her ivory skin a gift of being a Child of the Stars was cast in a calico of hues from the stain glass windows above depicting the appearance of the previous great mothers of the Sri-Rheanas. She loved walking barefoot in the palace as she knew it would set off the current great mother Neadauno Nincy. As she passed through the hall she noticed that there was not one Child of the Stars amongst the great mothers of the past. She thought back to when she had gone through the passage to bond with the Node of Mind. How she was told that most likely she would have little skill at controlling it. She had proven them wrong when not only did she develop a prime bond with the node but also be transformed in body to a Child of the Stars.
Passing through the great hallway always gave her time to think. She had never regretted becoming one of the gifted except in the inability for her to have children. Her lifespan was now ten times what it had been and her ability to work the arts had been greatly enhanced beyond that of most people on Aleria. In fact she might be one of the greatest truth speakers in the history of the sisterhood but would never be the great mother because of her dubious race. Being called away from her research always put her in a foul mood. She was so close to finding the lost school of memories. She tightened her ivory face and so that her peach blushed cheeks stood taught and opened the final door to the audience chamber. As she entered she saw the Great Mother preening over her outfit sitting on the golden throne the stain glass image of herself towering behind her. She waved her hand and the attending acolyte sisters left the chamber through hidden doors in the support pillars of the room. Nika embraced the Harmonia of Mind and started to work just as the Great mother looked up.
One of the greatest strengths of being a Child of the Stars was that no one could tell when she was using the art. All Children of the Stars changed only once when they first channeled and after that could never revert to there human form. She set up a mental echo chamber in her mind. It was a subversive way for her to see what the great mother was thinking with out allowing her to feel Nika prying. The echo chamber would allow here to hear the active mind of the mother as she was thinking. She attuned a portion of her own mind to sense the electrical and chemical changes in the mothers mind and recreate it in the allotted slot of her own. This was something her and, her brother Vail had theorized about for quite some time. After a little work with one another it had allowed her a new edge in the politics of the palace.
As the mother edged forward on her throne plated black hair under the veil and cornet of office she asked. “Child do you know why you have been summoned?”. “No mother I do not. It must be something gravely important for you to call me of all people.” “Remember your place child it’s only by the grace of the mother who came before me that I keep you here. As it is however it may be of great importance it may not.” There was an echo in her mind from the mother the first of many she was sure would follow. “She must not know she may have been right. The twins of Arcadium may not be the blessed as I thought. But we had waited so long the people needed to believe in them and keep our influence.” Nika held her smile inside feeling smug confidence that she was right. With and arch of her brow she returned “Mother I live to serve the sisters, how may I serve them.” Not you, was all she could think. “A young man has come to the Node of Mind and tested true. He is a worker of the arts. However one thing puzzles us he classed as a prime as did you. He is also a backwater Askinilander like yourself.” Nika used all her self control to not tell this Toscali wench off. “Interesting mother, how may I be of service?” “First off do you know of the clan Piknari? I know that you are of the Reggep clan and you askinilanders are constantly in endless feuds with one another. I lose track of who did what to who.” “Yes mother we have not feuded with the Piknari in several generations I am of a clan of no account while the Piknari are one of the most numerous.” “Well it matters not” she said with a wave of her hand “What do you know of a wielder by the name of Trust?” there was another echo forming in her mind “Does he have a twin sister?” was the question she really wanted to know. Now this was interesting Nika thought. Perhaps the child was the true blessed. As it happens Nika did know of him and his twin sister. They were the first to be born in Askiniland in three generations. “Mother as I said it is a vast clan, I believe that he possibly had a sister but more then that I could not tell you.” “Very well, in any event he may be of use to us as a guard perhaps even for the next great mother. Since you are an askinilander and not doing anything important I will assign him to you to train. Plus due to your unique ….. Background perhaps you will have better insight into what it means to be a man gifted with telepathy.” “Mother need I remind you I am currently busy researching the lost school of memories.” “Enough! That is a fairytale as I have told you countless times before. I have allowed you to pursue it only so that you would not get in the way of more important matters of the sisterhood and because I have no more important business I could trust you with. You will also implement words of sleep, power, and submit with in his mental training and give them to me.” The last of the echo’s formed clearly in her mind “If he is the male half of the Blessed as I think he is, perhaps I can use him to gain more control over the Toscali and Atlandu. I must also make sure not to let the Arcadium or any of the sisterhood know I may have made a mistake.” With a final stare into Nika’s emerald eyes she stated “That is all sister, you are dismissed.” Nika turned around and began to walk out the door as one final thought strayed though her echo chamber “I hate you and all your kind. I will keep you just long enough that your death doesn’t look suspicious. When you are of no use to me I will find a way to get truly rid of you once and for all.” With Nika’s face now to the door she finally let the smile crawl over her lips and thought. “When the time comes I can’t wait to see you try.”
