I was woken at 5.30 this morning but what I can only say was a cat screaming on the other side of my room. I got up to see what had happened and found one of my cats (Molly) had got her claws stuck in the grille on the side of my computer. It was honestly one of the scariest things I have ever seen. She panicked so much that in her struggle to pull her claws out of the grille she got her other paw stuck as well...and proceeded to make some of the most horrible sounds I've ever heard from an animal. I tried to hold her paws close to the computer to stop her from pulling her god damn nails out of her paws and now have a crater sized hole in my palm from her teeth. In the end, after some careful manoeuvring of her poor little paws, I managed to get her claws unstuck. I sat on the edge of my bed just holding her for about 5 minutes, I think she was in shock :( She didn't move, she didn't struggle while I held her...she must have been so scared. I checked her paws and nothing seems to be amiss, and she's fine now, though she's been following me around all day more than usual (as I type this, she's snuggled up under my arm watching the screen...I wonder if she knows I'm blogging about her?) So. That happened.
In other news: Today I finished LA Noire. The ending was a bit too sad for my liking but aside from that, that game is bloody good. Like, really really good. It fed all my fantasies of being a detective in the 40's, though now I do wish I owned a Trilby. I also want fic, lots of fic. About Phelps/Bekowsky. Someone write me that.
At the beginning of the week I finally finished Generation Kill, which I really enjoyed, despite the fact I wasn't expecting too. For some reason, things about war will always shock me, even though I know more of less exactly what to expect from this sort of thing. And that show is not glossy, Hollywood fodder at all. Some of the things that happen in it (some of which is the Marines themselves) are just horrible. Still, for me right now, HBO can do no wrong. And bloody hell, the show introduced me to Stark Sands, possibly the most beautiful angel-faced man child in existence. I don't see how he can be human. As per my MO I've been shipping the fuck out of the 100% heterosexual marines in it (that was a joke, that show is pretty damn gay, and my pairing of choice is Brad/Nate if you care) and was thrilled (as in there were stars in my eyes and sugar in my veins) when I saw the GK comm here on LJ was literally exploding with that pairing. Okay, not literally exploding, that would be horrible. I have also discovered thanks to that show that I have a mahoosive love/hate relationship with James Ransone. The chap can obviously act, his character Ray is the funniest thing in Generation Kill, and he is quite striking...but he's like a good looking version of a guy I know (also named James) who I absolutely despise. He is my nemesis. The world would probably be a better place without him.
Onto another thing which is inspiring slash fans on the internet (or not because it doesn't have undertones, but OVERTONES). X-Men First Class. Yes, that film with the shark and the pretty boy.
I initially was against seeing this film because I am the biggest, most militant Marvel fan ever...or not because otherwise I wouldn't have gone to see it. The reason I went to see it in the end was because a friend, who I met in the comic shop I used to work at, wanted to hang out before he went away to sea (he went away on Friday and is an engineer on cruise ships). I didn't think it would be very fair for me to put on my hipster shades and tell him no, I won't go and see that film because I'm a Marvel fan. The only reason I really wanted to see it anyway was because I had heard stories of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr's epic bromance. It wasn't a bromance though, it was a romance with bells on it. I have so many problems with this film, you wouldn't believe (to name a few, Mystique is hundreds of years old, and never met/grew up with Charles, Banshee is IRISH, Moire is the most Scottish comic book character ever, some of it was so cheesy I could cry, the effects was terrible, and Take That did the theme song). I also thought Emma looked like a hooker, but maybe that was in during the 60's. Also, since she's the other love of Scott Summer's life shouldn't she have been younger than Havok? How many canon story lines do the films have? I'm guessing the original X-Men movies and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are meant to be, since Scott and Emma meet briefly then as children and are the same age. Other than that I thought she was well played. Other points of interest: Erik and the lovely yet snotty Charles. So yes...those two. I love them. I'm not joking, they have completely tore my heart out and ran off with it. While I liked Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy enough as actors I never really found either of them that attractive (okay, I have this thing where sometimes I think James McAvoy is the most beautiful creature alive, and other times I just think he looks like a random bloke). But here...in this film...they were just amazing. They were certainly the most interesting thing in the film to me, which I guess is testament to what good actors they really are, especially together. I'd be interested to know how much of the homoeroticism was written into the film by the writers and how much was added by the actors themselves. They certainly seem to be quite enamoured with each other. This year's Jewnicorns maybe?
Needless to say I'm shipping those two like Fedex right now, and if you also this way inclined maybe I possibly rec a fic to you?
Cotton Walls by the wonderful
toestastegood. I should probably warn right now for how very NSFW this fic is (nc-17 children), as well as a good dose of hurt/comfort (ugh I like that stuff).
Once again what was supposed to be a rather short, coherent post has turned into a messy, stream of conciousness...thing. Your poor people.
