And now, an educational offering...

What not to put on your cover letter or resume:
  • "My professional aspiration is to be a CEO." You're applying for a junior programming job. Focus!
  • "I recently moved back to San Francisco and have a vehicle." Um. That's ... nice? Now, how about something on topic?
  • "I took second place in the Mr. Indian pageant." We only want first place winners around here, buddy! j/k
  • 22 pages of resume. With sparkle-text background. And "marching ant" borders. With poor English grammar. EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK OMG the horror, aaaaah, asdf jkl; asdf jkl; *head slamming on keyboard*.
  • "My most recent experience as Associate General Counsel with the Seattle Monorail Project ...." Okay, not actually bad .... but damn funny for those of you from the Pacific Northwest!! It's like saying you were the captain of the Titanic or the Exxon Valdez!
  • Technician's assistant and kennel staff. Pet sitter. Oh dear god. LEGAL. RESEARCH. POSITION. At least try to relate your experience to the position! ;_;
  • Using the wrong company name in your cover letter. That really shows attention to detail and that you care about my company, let me tell you.

work, rants
