Mossy green magic

I have been meaning to post some photos from a recent hike up to Multnomah Falls. I knew that the Columbia River Gorge was beautiful, but I had never explored above the main tourist trail going up Larch Mountain (going beyond the top part of the falls that you see in all the famous photos). It really is a fairyland up there, of waterfalls, and mist and moss, and many delicate ferns.

To start with, this is looking down from the very top of the main falls.

Just above that (right by the wooden viewing platform) is a charming pool fed by little falls, that would seem almost a perfect place for a dip--if it wasn't for the 620 foot drop behind you.

Oregon moss at its best, growing thick in the omnipresent spray.

One of many smaller waterfalls along the trail above.

And an adorable mini-fall, spilling down the rocks to the side of the trail. Most passers by might even have missed it, (as undramatic as it was in person), but I think it made for my favorite photo of the day.

Much of the river up here is quite turbulent, even if it isn't dropping hundreds of feet.

And lastly, a classic tourist shot of the dog and I, on our way back down to civilization. (Given the distance we hiked, and how many hours of clambering around I did while admiring the gorgeous scenery and looking for interesting photographs, I actually do look amazingly tidy)
