When Tatsuya next saw Koyama, he’d come over with a box of pizza and a six pack of Tatsuya’s favourite beer.

“Hey you!” he greeted with a pleasant smile as he stepped inside and made his way to the kitchen. “I feel like I haven’t seen you for ages”.

Tatsuya couldn’t deny that he was happy to see him too but, the unease of what he must do sent wavy pains to the centre of his chest. “Something came up so I’ve been dealing with that”.

Koyama looked up from the fridge, “nothing bad, I hope”, he replied with eyes filled with concern.

Tatsuya slowly nodded. Nothing bad - was actually a tricky way to put things.

Meeting Junno again was certainly nothing bad but his and Koyama’s circumstance was complicating things. Or was it Junno who had a wrong timing? Or was it that somehow, time had made a mistake? Did time really just simply trespass and brought them together again out of nowhere? All that thinking and guilt felt like a palpable malice had pinned a thick dagger to the side of his neck.

Tatsuya reached for a beer and took a sip. “I’ve a few days to have it sorted out”.

“That’s good, I guess", Koyama answered him, bringing over the pizza in plates. "But don’t forget to take breaks and breathe”,

Tatsuya smiled but it was tight with guilt and his conscience was so loud that he could hardly hear anything else that Koyama was saying.

“So you say but it must be difficult, huh?”, he looked up to find Koyama waving his hands before eyes.

Tatsuya blinked and took another sip. “What must be?”

“Whatever thing is on your mind. Want to talk about it?”

In truth, the answer should’ve been yes. Perhaps that was the perfect time to naturally bring up the topic but instead, Tatsuya stuffed a slice of pizza in his mouth and mumbled. “It’ll work out somehow”.

Koyama immediately dropped the case and gave Tatsuya his space. ““Alright, if you say so. But know I’ll be here whenever”.

Tatsuya nodded - the dagger deeper in his skin.

.

But like any two hearts alike, the only thing that kept Junno from going crazy with worry was work. It was March but instead of people planning their June wedding, they had divorce appointments lined up which inevitably led to playing lawyer and peace keeper in long hours of consultations while flipping through papers with creases in his forehead. Day and night he’d immersed himself in work so it was a miracle that Koki managed to have dragged him from the office and to a pub that not only served great cocktails but was also spacious and clean and nicely donned out with billiard tables and dart boards.

“Let me get this straight…”, Koki said as he handed him a beer. “You settled a case today, it’s payday and you’re drinking with the greatest company - the Royal Me, and yet you don’t seem too happy. Could this possibly be the infamous menopause I sense?”

Junno lightheartedly laughed and took a sip of his beer. “Oh I do apologise for being distracted oh Royal One”.

“You should be”, Koki agreed, then pointed with his left shoulder. “I just blew of those two ladies for the sake of some manly bonding time so speak up. I’ll be your Royal Counsellor”.

Junno looked over at the two women who seemed as though they still hadn’t given up. “I’m sorry for the loss”.

“Oh shut up and talk”, Koki poked him with his cue stick.

Junno took a deep breath then swallowed half his beer. “Does this manly bonding include advice on boy trouble?”

“It does”, Koki wasted no time in answering. “So you have boy trouble and what? Go on”, he urged Junno.

Junno was near speechless, pausing a fair while before he replied, “Wait. You don’t find this weird?”, his head slightly tilted to the side still in astonishment. “I kind of just jumped out the closet at you and your only reaction is a sip of your beer?”

Koki laughed. “You didn’t just jump out the closet at me. You just forgot that I’m very observant and that’s why I’ve noticed the changes in your routine”.

Junno was by then very amused. “What changes?”

“The ones ever since we met that really handsome man in the park the other day”.

Junno found himself laughing, poking Koki with the cue stick. “You really are a dangerous man, Mr. Tanaka”.

Koki’s cackle was pure. “I prefer words like; observant, royalty and damn fine”.

Junno rolled his eyes at him but he was truly happy. “I have no idea who you’re talking about and I’m sure you don’t either but yeah, back to me… let’s just say it’s not as easy as I thought it would be”.

Koki’s glare at him could cut the air. “I’ll pretend I didn’t notice your diss just now or maybe I'll just take a bit of joy in knowing that for once, you can’t smile and charm your way in", he smirked.

“Quite the opposite”, Junno very smugly answered, his eyebrows daringly arched. “We’re actually rocking the same boat”.

“Then what’s the problem?”

Junno sighed, took another sip of his beer while looking about the room that was loud with music but chill in crowd, the whiff of food from the servers’ trays also opened up his appetite. It’s the kind of chill pace that Tatsuya would love. “Nothing really”, Junno answered, taking ready position to start the game.

“If that were really true then you would be half drunk by now, Junno - and happily so with your lover boy by your side”.

Junno hummed - the kind of sound that’s like a shoulder shrug. “Maybe that will happen when I see him in another four days”.

“Oh!”, Koki exclaimed with eyes wide with tease. “So that’s really it, huh?”, he gave Junno another poke and had on the widest grin. “You’re just feeling a little lovesick, aren’t you?”

Junno’s smile was a rare sort of shy. “Is that gross?”

“A tiny bit”, Koki laughed.

Junno scoffed and worked his way back to his smugness. “Well since you love my love life so much, from now on I’ll be telling you all the juicy details”.

Koki’s laugh suddenly fell from his eyes and was immediately replaced by crunches in his forehead. “I hereby retract my royal title”, he hurriedly said. “The last thing I need reaching my ears is your sex life or lack thereof”.

Junno’s laugh was loud and cheerful and melded in well in the pub’s atmosphere. “Well I’m glad you accepted”.

“Hey! Are you even listening to me?”

But Junno only laughed again. “Yup. Loud and clear”, he replied while checking his phone just in case he’d missed an important text message telling him that five days was too much. “My Royal Love Counsellor”.

Koki huffed and puffed and took sweet revenge and advance payment by beating Junno all night in every game they played.

Naturally, Junno didn’t take it very well, more so, since Tatsuya's mail never came.
