"Is this what boys are for?"

Jan 31, 2006 12:22

I finished moving this weekend, whereby I mean all of my worldly possessions were transported down one/two flights of stairs, driven ten minutes across town, then alternately abandoned in the living room or hauled up two flights to my new room by Woz and two of the manliest of men, the most boy-like of boys you're likely to find around MIT campus.

The two guys cheerfully hefted around boxes that I found too large and/or too heavy to contemplate going down a staircase safely. They also disassembled and reassembled my futon.

While my general outlook on the scenario was a heck of a lot of relief and even more gratitude, there was a non-insignificant part of me saying, "A real manperson would be carrying her own goddamn boxes and putting together her own goddamn futon."

I mean, yes, my life was made easier because someone else did my hard work for me. And they enjoyed themselves a heck of a lot more than I would have. And a few of those boxes were heavy enough that I probably would have hurt myself and/or my belongings if I tried to lift them. And I probably would have been able to do a lot more box carrying if my left arm wasn't gimpy.

All these excuses do nothing to mitigate how I feel like less of a person and more of a dumb girl.
