Okay, so I just watched the Rifftrax for Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've never actually seen any of the Indiana Jones movies before now (the brief snippets I had seen never held any real interest for me) and I didn't really have high expectations going in. For the most part those low expectations were met and up until the ending it came off as a

-One of the greatest action heroes in cinema history, the one who felt like a real guy and got by on the skin of his teeth. Intelligent, recognizable, iconic clothing/accessories; Indiana Jones is the man.
-Great throwback to the 1930's adventure serials, with Indy traveling the globe, falling in love with the girl, rescuing said girl, saving the world, and looking badass doing it.
-Really good acting by pretty much everyone involved
-A villain(Belloq) that perfectly resembled the gray of the stark black/white world. While Indy was the all-American rugged hero to Toht's stuttering, peering over magazines evilness, Belloq took qualities from both. He and Indy were both looking for treasure, and they will kill to achieve their goals.
-Wonderful script. It plays on your emotions and lets the unexpected happen(Who DIDN'T get nervous when Toht's came out with his foldable hanger?)
-Quite possibly the most well-known and parioded intro of all-time
-Great direction from Steven Spielberg, you truly felt he was in love with what he was doing and he has his signature touches all over it.
-Very well done, fluid action set pieces, with the truck chase being my personal favorite example of pacing, humor, fighting, and sense of danger. I mean c'mon, the stuntman went UNDER the truck, hung on from the back by his whip, and back around to kick ass.
-And whats to hate with the ending? The Ark kills the Nazis, the Ark is locked away in this giant warehouse that makes you think "Man, what else can be in there?", and Indy goes off with Marion. Classic stuff.
Summary: Raiders of the Lost Ark is the perfect balance of action and comedy, with dashes of romance and supernatural mystery, helped by great acting and directing, and one of the best soundtracks anywhere, with the best action hero out there. Its a movie that has been ripped-off and imitated for over 25 years, but never duplicated. It is THE adventure movie which all adventure movies are compared to, and quite simply, one of the greatest movies ever created.
