Shelf displays - Disney & other dolls

If anyone is still reading this, hello! This post is mostly for my own sake (for posterity), but if you've stumbled upon it somehow then that's fine too.

After I saw The Princess and the Frog in 2009, I became really obsessed with the movie and, by extension, became really interested in Disney for the first time since I was a kid. Since then I've collected a bunch of Disney things, mostly dolls, which take up a lot of space. Luckily, my dad put some nice glass shelves in my room while I was at college, and over the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks I filled the shelves with all the Disney memorabilia. Now it actually looks organized and nice instead of cluttering up the room.

The two Disney movies that I collect most enthusiastically are The Princess and the Frog (naturally) and Mulan, two of my favorites. Each has its own shelf.

And now a few close-ups of my favorite items:

Left: Ashton-Drake and Integrity's Tiana doll. Hands-down the most gorgeous Tiana doll I've seen. Right: Charlotte LaBouff! I just loved her in the movie. I found this crazy poofy Barbie dress on eBay and got it for her because it looks a bit like her party dress in the movie.

Left: WDCC Tiana sculpture. I love WDCC pieces, and although they're usually too expensive for me, I've found you can get most of them on eBay for a lot less than the retail price if you have enough patience. For a little while, this was the only PatF sculpture in the Classics Collection, but they've announced a couple of new ones for 2011! They are Dr. Facilier and Naveen as a frog, to complete the balcony scene with Tiana! :D
Right: Tiana and Naveen wedding set. So far my only Naveen doll is the one in this set. Aren't they cute?

Left: Tiana as a toddler. She actually looks a lot like the younger Tiana does in the movie. Right: The book in this photo, "The Art of The Princess and the Frog", is full of beautiful production and pre-production art from the movie. If you thought the movie was gorgeous, like I did, you should definitely check it out.

Beads from Tiana's singing show at Disneyland. I went with my friends and it was really fun. :)

Left: My favorite Mulan doll, Spring Blossom Mulan! She has the sweetest face, I think, and not only does she have the great outfit of a collectible doll, she's also posable so you can play with her! Right: WDCC Mulan. I thought this was a great moment in the movie.

"The Art of Mulan" is the best animation art book I've ever read. The art is wonderful and the text is really interesting as well.

I have two more glass shelves, and these are devoted to all the other Disney movies - although you'll notice that Cinderella (another of my favorites) almost takes up the whole top shelf. Right now I have them arranged by movie in chronological order.

Again, a few favorites:

WDCC Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother.

50th Anniversary Cinderella doll. She has the best dress, in my opinion.

Left: Aladdin and Jasmine. Behind them you can see two more Jasmine dolls (because they haven't made that many of Aladdin :P). Right: An Esmeralda doll that my sister and I found in a local doll shop. They even had a bunch of her outfits!

Jane from Tarzan, and Kida and Milo from Atlantis. Their boxes are cute and in good condition, so I couldn't bear to open them.

Left: Giselle from Enchanted. I wish her dolls didn't go for such high prices on eBay, but with some luck I got this one. Right: Flynn and Rapunzel from Tangled. Flynn looks like he's up to no good with the shadows on his face! I actually just meant to have him holding up the tiara to Rapunzel.

Other than Disney, I'm a big fan of animation in general. Although my shelf for non-Disney, non-Pixar animation studios is a little bare. It's partly because Dreamworks movies almost never have dolls associated with them (since they're usually meant to appeal to boys), and for some reason I haven't gotten one of the cute Coraline dolls yet even though I LOVED the movie. So right now, the only residents of this shelf are Victor, Emily and Scraps from Corpse Bride, and Anastasia.

I almost wanted to put Anastasia on the Disney shelf, because part of me thinks she'll be lonely if she's by herself. :P However, it might just bother me more if she wasn't properly categorized. xD

Now, the Pixar shelf:

The two books are "The Art of Toy Story 3" and the Little Golden Book version of TS3, which is just too cute. The figurines are by Square Enix and are really great quality.

These dolls reside on top of the same bookshelf, although they aren't cartoon characters.

They are Tonner's Dorothy and Poison Ivy, Jazz Diva Barbie (the BEST collector Barbie ever), and repro Wild Bunch Francie.

I also have a CD rack by the Disney shelves, which right now is a makeshift display shelf for these Wizard of Oz Barbies. What's really cool about them is that they're done in a vintage style. My sister and I bought these together.

And now, the dolls I have no room to display - the gargantuan 17" Disney princess dolls made by the Disney Store. They are really pretty, however.

I like how the series has been done so far; the princesses have a really classic look. I'm so impatient to see how the Cinderella doll will look - and if they make one of Mulan, I bet it will be awesome!

Well, thanks for looking! As you can see, I'm running out of open space for dolls in my room! ^^; At least it's making me think harder about what items are worth adding to my collection.
