Yeeeessss!!!!!! The Virtual season is back.
wmc_vs And wow is it back. I know I’ve said this many times, many ways and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, a parrot or whatever else repeats a lot, (my 97 year-old neighbour) WMC fans are the luckiest fans on the web. Sure we may have gotten the shaft a couple of times by some of the original PTB, but the new and unofficial-official PTB know how to do it right. And judging by the first of the three-part mini-series, they haven’t lost their magic touch.
inspectorboxer’s superb episode, Beginning of the End, was every bit the rollercoaster ride I was told it would be. A slow tension-filled ascension, followed by a leisurely glide along seemingly inoffensive tracks until you get to the edge and the sudden drop leaves your heart hanging somewhere in the stratosphere.
I still haven’t completely come down. Although, after a few weeks of speculation I had started to suspect some of the outcome, a lot of it was a total surprise; I’d even say some things blew me away.
If you haven’t read the episode yet you shouldn’t peek under the cut. By the way, why haven’t you read the episode yet? What the heck are you waiting for? Get your butt over there ;)
The Case: The time for speculating is over. Hmm…well who am I kidding? I’m already speculating about the episodes to come, but for now we know; Pete Raynor was KMN all along, and he’d bugged Lindsay’s cell not Cindy’s desk I would have lost money on that at the end of last season. However, the closer we got to the premiere and the more I thought about it, and given what we knew, it made sense. But bringing Ashe back was a stroke of genius. Killing him, was a surprise but blowing him up along with Lindsay’s home, was very unexpected, and the scene itself, brilliantly executed.
The Club: Just like last season we get a perfect dose of Club interaction. Even though half of it is in Texas until the end of the last act, we can still feel the connection. In the case of these four, membership is thicker than blood. As for honorary members Denise and Jacobi, they kicked ass.
Lindsay and Cindy: Wanting to meet Lindsay’s family is so Cindy. Even cut short it was the perfect getaway. It was great to see them far from the rest of the San Francisco gang and to see how they related to each other in that context. Cindy has matured a lot in those past months and the way she is there for Lindsay with unfaltering loyalty, support and most of all love was exceptionally portrayed.
The Triangle: It would appear I am in the minority, but I don’t hate Maggie Snow in fact so far, I kinda like her. Sure, not long after she arrived in San Francisco, she started ruffling some feathers and made some very serious accusation without having all the facts, but one could easily argue that she was only doing her job. Besides, she soon amended her position and most importantly she saved Jill’s life. So for the time being, I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt. Denise however is definitely a Maggie-hater, and it would seem that when it comes to Jill, the green-eyed monster inhabiting her is T-rex size. I am extremely eager to see how this ‘love triangle’ is going to progress.
A damn-why is-the-screen-blurry-all of-a-sudden moment
“Actually… I do want you to know one thing.”
“And what’s that?”
“That I love your granddaughter more than I’ve ever loved anyone in my whole life,”
In the hands of skilful writer, simple words, inserted at exactly the perfect place can have a very profound effect.
A I can’t-sit-down-cause-I-laughed-my-ass-off moment
“Who the hell named a serial killer the Hallelujah Man? Do you know how hard that is to spell?”
This is probably the only time I’ll ever agree with Ashe. Actually, it is definitely the only time I’ll agree with him since I don’t think he’ll be doing a lot of talking in the future. Each time I wrote it last season, I got it wrong. So yes, it is ‘unspellable’. ;)
A if-I stuck-a screwdriver-in-an-electrical-outlet-I-wouldn’t-be-more-shock moment
Behind them, Lindsay’s home exploded
What more can I say about that scene; it was artfully depicted and I never saw it coming.
