WMC - Why Can't Real TV Be This Good - Episode 11 (part 1)

Jan 24, 2009 21:47

Seriously why? Ok, so not everything on television is bad.  Some of it is very good, but a lot of it is mindless, repetitive junk. Most of all, it is regularly disappointing.  Many television shows start out promising, but head downhill after a few airings. There are also the seesaw series. From week to week, you never know what to expect from those shows; the good, the bad or the…worst.  So-called professional television writers should be taking lessons in continuity and character development from the Virtual Season team.  inspectorboxer could teach a master class. This week, she pens part one of Thy Will Be Done, 11th episode of a season that hasn’t diminished in quality one iota since it began last September.

In this installment tension is at an all-time high when Hallelujah Man gets within touching distance of a club member. After his intended victim falls prey to another murderer, the serial killer must revise his plan. HM’s proximity has been depicted before but never so disturbingly. As we near the finish line, this intricately developed storyline is getting more and more riveting.

No less riveting is the relationship between Lindsay and Cindy which has blossomed into a beautiful love story.  However there are still signs of turbulent waters ahead. When asked if she thinks Lindsay is hers, Cindy answers with unwavering confidence that yes, she is, “completely”, but the sight of her lover’s ex’s calling card continues to bring up insecurities.  Can their union survive the persistent specter of Pete Raynor?

Just as she did with prior episodes, Inspectorboxer hits all the right notes. With perfect ease she integrates humor and anguish. While we fear for the characters we can’t help reveling in their love and friendship. This virtual season has been refreshingly satisfying. Although the rapidly approaching conclusion feels bittersweet, I can console myself in the knowledge that I may go back to the beginning and read it all over again.

Under the cut is my theory regarding the identity of HM. No spoilers only speculation. Still, I prefer to issue a warning just in case.

Exceptionally I will not be listing favorite moments and lines because, frankly, I would just be copy/pasting the entire episode. Instead I’m going to speculate and theorize for the record so that I may be utterly humiliated when I’m proven wrong.

So who is Hallelujah Man?

First who isn’t HM?  I don’t think it’s Pete. Although creepy as hell and hard of hearing, I don’t think is capable of murder but my vote is still on him being highly familiar with surveillance equipment.

It’s neither Tom nor Jacobi. What? I have to consider everyone.

Could be someone from Honeycutt’s law firm, but it is very unlikely

Here’s my number 1 suspect: David the Bailiff

What does a bailiff do? He swears in witnesses using a bible. So in his mind, as part of his job in court, he is the instrument of God. And working court, he has witnessed more of his share of the criminal element i.e. sinners which has warped his already delusional mind.  So he might have wanted to pursue his perceived calling outside regular office hours. In a way, he works in law enforcement which would fit what Zach from New Faith told Cindy. He works at The Hall of Justice so that would be how he knows the club’s every move. He was probably standing at the back of the court room during the Dow Trial commenting on Honeycutt’s sins or Jill’s.   He is tall and broad, probably would have to be to pull off what HM has.

I haven’t figured out how the Tyrian purple silk fits in yet. I didn’t say my theory was perfect.  And I’m not ready to accuse. I am only suspecting at the moment.

And none of that explains who killed Jill’s stepfather. Speaking of which I know all arrows point to her as HM’s next target but I’m not one hundred sure that’s how it will play out. So I really can’t wait for the next episode to air.
