So after over seven years I had another seizure. Actually I had four seizures- they were at about 1:30am Sunday. That's quite the way to scare my in-laws, I'd say! I'm in Yuma, Arizona right now with Wendy's family. I remember staying up until about 12:45am writing in my journal and stuff. We went down into Mexico, and I got to meet Wendy's grandmother and some aunts and uncles. I am currently in the process of doing family history research for her family as well as mine, so this was a prime opportunity. I now have James' five-generation family tree completely filled out!! Anyway, I was writing about my encounter with her abuelita Abigail as well as other family members. When I hear family stories I like to write them down in as much detail as possible.
I got so tired I fell asleep there in my bed next to my computer without thinking anything of it. I felt totally fine. Well, I was a good bit drowsy but nothing out of the ordinary. The next thing I remember is just a very fleeting memory. It was a really...wrong feeling, like something was terribly not right in my body. I did not have any control, but I do faintly remember hearing my mother-in-law saying, "Adam, you're having a seizure!" with other people in the room. Apparently during that time I was fighting off the oxygen mask and IV's. I also ever-so-faintly remember being carried to the ambulance in front of my in-laws. I really started to come to at the end of the ambulance ride when one of the paramedics told me, "We're giving you morphine to take you out of the seizures!" I guess during that whole time when I was not awake I was going through more seizures. I thought I would never have to go through that again! It had been since high school when I last had one. I think it is because I bought some Lamictal in Mexico. Now, I have done that before with no problem. I think the issue is that I swallowed whole the chewable tablets without breaking them up at all. I don't think they absorbed the way they were supposed to.
I was in the hospital for a few hours. I don't know exactly how long it was, but I was out of it for a while. They gave me some really, really strong sedative as we were leaving. It burned like heck going into my shoulder.
So I have had problems lifting my legs now. I think it is from the seizing, like just using leg muscles I don't usually use. Another possibility is that there is some neurological damage, but I don't know about that. I guess the next few days will tell. I can hobble around kind of slowly but still okay, but I have to physically lift my legs with my arms to get into my father-in-law's truck or to get out of the car, etc. It's like my legs, especially my right, don't respond like they're supposed to. Who knows?
We are about to go swimming now in the 110 degree Sonora Desert heat. Yay! It'll be fun.
