So, it happened! I proposed to Wendy today! I must say that I am somewhat tired. First off, I woke up at 4:00 AM and got showered and dressed in my tuxedo and left at 4:30. Wendy was flying to Florida today, so she had a four hour lay-over in Hartsfield. Her plane got in at 5:30, so I wanted to make sure I had time. So, I went there dressed in my tux with a dozen red carnations, Wendy's favorite flower. At first I was just a little bit nervous about going into the busiest airport in the world dressed in a tux carrying flowers, but I soon got over it. I waited for Wendy right at the exit from the gates to the baggage claim. Small numbers of people were streaming out, so it wasn't too hard to find Wendy. Right when she saw me, I started walking over to my left behind the wall next to the escalator where the passengers were coming from. She just looked at me (of course, smiling), with that what-the-heck-are-you-doing-you-nut-but-I-think-I-like-it look. We got to the other side of the wall, and without saying a word to her beforehand, I knelt down on my right knee. I said something really cheesy and romantic which I won't say right here, but...well, I'll tell you that it had French in it. [Paco shakes head in disbelief]. ((okay, I've spent all of my life making fun of the French and their wacked out language, and what do I do? I find a girl who speaks French fluently and is keenly acquainted with French and Swiss culture...)).
Without delay she said, "yes." So, with this huge-almost-embarrassed-very-surprised-absolutely-giddy grin on her face, I put the ring on. Right after that, these two girls came up to us and said, "CAN WE TAKE YOUR PICTURE??!!" Excellent! I handed them my camera, and they took the pics I just posted to facebook. The first two were in black and white since I had forgotten to take that setting off my camera. So...I guess that's okay if you're going for the whole rustic artsy look. After I realized the error of my ways, I switched it to color, thus producing the color pictures I put on there. After the girls took the picture, this funny old black guy comes up and says, "ooh! Let's see!" He looked at her hand and said to me, "You done good!" shook my hand, and walked off. We walked over to the Atrium to chill on the couches over there. I didn't really care that a bazillion folks were staring at us. Some just smiled and said sweet things about us, and others looked...and then looked away...and then looked...and then looked away as if they hadn't seen us or didn't WANT us to know they had seen us. We went ahead and took advantage of the (almost exactly) one hour we could spend together this morning, and I could care less what the people thought. It had been a good while folks. Okay okay, a little less than a month, but...yeah.

So, Paquito is an engaged man now. Crzii, no?
Tyler, I'm sorry. I was just hiding this relationship from you, especially after I caught you making out with Smarterchild yelling, "HIM MASTER!!1!!!1" in a falsetto screech.
Erik, you can be my bride's maid ANY day. I'm sure Wendy would not oppose.

Oh yeah, I guess y'all might want to know the dates. Well, we're not doing the thing that so many Mormons do, getting married like less than a month after the proposal. We'll get married in December. It will most likely be the 29th, and it will be in Arizona where her fambly lives. We will have the reception out there and then go to school for the beginning of Winter Semester. However, we SHALL make a triumphant return to Lilburn on MLK Jr Day weekend. On that Saturday we will have an open house here at my joint. It will also double as a...well, double birthday extravaganza, since her birthday is January 15th, and mine is the 13th. I believe Saturday is the 14th, so that is the one day of the year we are both the same age. Convenient, eh? Clearly all of you are invited to come. Right now I don't have many details, obviously, since we have a whole summer and semester to plan it out.
Just so y'all know, this wasn't a surprise proposal. Well, it WAS one by virtue of the fact that I did it at HARTSFIELD, but we were already planning out the wedding dates and all this other stuff like health insurance (which will be a killer), car insurance, reception and open house plans, finding an apartment in Provo, etc. She was expecting me to ask her sometime this summer at Disney World. She really didn't care when I would ask her, just as long as it wasn't too far in the future, i.e. within a month.

I'll go visit her in a couple weeks, most likely.

All of today has been surreal. I survived almost all the live-long day on energy drinks. I downed a 16oz Rockstar on my way to the airport, and afterwards I drank this other 16oz-er that I hadn't tried before. It was called, like, "Rip It" or something. It wasn't as good. They don't have the really good ones here in metro Atlanta, at least at the places I have looked.

At work today, we had our first full day of taking calls, and my brain almost fried itself to ashes. My very first call was this Malaysian guy whose name was Kalikamannan Nuriapan. He had no idea what I was saying, so after 5 minutes of just trying to figure out what language he spoke, I got the interpretation service going. My head was just spinning from hearing that crazy Malay language in which it sounds like they repeat the same 4 or 5 consonants and 2 vowels the WHOLE TIME, the energy drinks, and the fact that I had spent an hour in the morning with my girlfriend-turned-fiance. Today was a verrry interesting day, indeed.
