The Appalachians are not frozen, and in fact there is not now nor is there forecast to be any appreciable temperature difference between San Francisco and Hyden, Kentucky for the time that I'll be traveling. I'm so pleased.
Due to the vagaries of time zones, aircraft schedules, and the lack of direct flights between San Francisco and Lexington, the only flight that would get me here early enough to catch the school-sponsored bus to campus tomorrow was a red eye; since I can't sleep on planes, I decided to come out a day earlier and treat myself to a night at a nice hotel.
I miss
unsound and our kitties very much, but I am amusing myself admirably with my fancy room at the Hyatt Regency, room service (they brought me a cold draught beer with my tasty soup and salad!), and cable TV. In a minute I'm going to trade my dirty dishes for a glass of red wine (ironically from California). Then I shall tuck myself in to my pillow top king-sized bed and sleep well until they bring me my breakfast in the morning. A girl could get used to this.
Tomorrow I go back to the airport to meet the rest of my classmates, and we'll head up into the mountains. Wish me nice people, no Kool-Aid, no unsolicited hugs, and no trust exercises.
