My Dad's 70th birthday is in December this year, so I decided to make a quilt for him. I finished the top last night:
He was a librarian, and then a lecturer in Librarianship at Monash for 25 years or so, so books are an important part of his life!
The top shelf is reference, starting with a dictionary, small encyclopaedia set, a few language dictionaries, then onto the music reference, which also consumes most of the second shelf. The third shelf on is fiction: note the complete works of Shakespeare (brown and gold set), and the famous colourful bindings of another set of books. Anyone recognise them?
I called the quilter on Wednesday morning, only to find out that she's going away for three weeks as of tomorrow, and is fully booked until Christmas! Crap! But then she decided that as I'm a valued repeat customer and that it's only a small quilt (lap size) that she could squeeze me in. Phew!
So after it's quilted I'll need to complete it. Dad gets very cold during winter, so the idea is that I'll sew buttons and loops on to the lower side to create a pocket to wrap around his feet. Inside that pocket I'll sew another pocket, to contain a wheat bag which he can heat up. Should keep his toes toasty!
On to the next project tonight then!
