Gloriana Concert

Mar 21, 2007 21:16

Just a reminder that Daylight Saving concludes this Sunday (clocks are put back one hour at 2.00am). Therefore The Earth Will Move on Sunday at 2:30pm EST!

The earth moved: Gorecki's Miserere, written in 1981 and closely related to the celebrated Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, is the composer's heartfelt response to his people's continuing political and personal agony. In an unbroken span of 35 minutes, this work runs the full gamut of emotions - from exultation to deep despair. Named after the Easter antiphon "...and behold the earth moved", Antoine Brumel's 12-part Earthquake Mass is one of the most extraordinary and unprecedented works of the late Renaissance. Also Clare Maclean's Christ the King, based on a poem by New Zealand poet James K. Baxter.
