You may remember (or not!) that I was working on a pretty big project for job #2 a couple of months ago. It was to write a series of 25 English grammar lessons and also the accompanying podcast scripts for each lesson for an English language learning website. This series had to be British English, which is why I was hired to do it instead of their usual English writers who are all American.
For the podcast recording they also needed Brits, so I was asked if I'd be willing to record them as I'd already recorded some vocabulary lists for them. I agreed, and Saturday was my first session.
I think I can officially put "voice actor" on my CV now XD
It was a lot of fun, actually! It was nice to see those scripts that I'd head desked about be recorded and nice to be the one who did it. The podcast format is for two people to do them so I was recording with this other Brit, a guy called John. I was a little worried about the recording because I know my voice can be a little... devoid of excitement sometime (genkiness is not my speciality most days!) but I didn't have a problem. When we were recording the dialogues, I really felt like I was acting, hahahaha.
I didn't need many retakes, either. I was asked to do a retake maybe 4-5 times during the three hour session. Poor John was doing them after every other sentence.
I am very annoyed that, as nice a guy as he is, that his name is John. There is a dialogue in every script and they follow a story arc. The main character of my story is a business graduate named Lucy (named after that Lucy, of course!) and because it amused me immensely, I named her boyfriend Jon (named after that Jon, of course!) Unfortunately because the guy recording the podcast was also called John, they changed my character Jon to Jack.
Totally ruined my fun!!
We're booked in for another session in a couple of weeks. I think it will take three sessions to do all twenty five.
I'm working on another big project for them right now. The first deadline is ten days after the project started and as I'm loosing the final four of those ten days due to stalking seeing fade a couple of times in Kansai, I need to finish early.
I can do it! Yes!
And of course, it will soon be two years since the earthquake/tsunami in Tohoku. Still so many missing, still so many displaced, still so much work to do. Think of them today, and all of the other people around the world who have been affected by similar circumstances in their own countries.
real life,
