Alright, here is how it all went down. The drive out to NY was long, but it wasn’t too bad. Sabomnim, Scarp and myself managed to keep talking and keep cracking jokes so it wasn’t too bad, it was a long drive though. We made it to Master Rexer’s Dojang around 6pm after a traveling time of about 7 hours total. And I must say that his school is HUGE and VERY impressive with 3 floors and all kinds of stuff going on with a bigger workout room than the Y. That said, I still prefer our main training area cause of the flooring and general layout, but Rexer has like 6x more total space. While we were there we managed to get some idea as to what we were up against for the seminar and then we went to eat and to our hotel.

6:30am came early… Very EARLY... but there was a lot of work to be done so we got up and moving and got our game on. I could detail everything out from this point but no one would have any idea what I’d be talking about and it would likely bore to tears those who did, plus I just don’t want to type that much so I’ll sum it up. Here is what it came down to. The Haidong Gumdo operation that was going on there was very big, however it was missing a lot because their lead sword instructor had been skimped on training and that filtered down through pretty far. These guys needed a lot of work from the ground up with even the most fundamental aspects.

It’s not that they were bad, but they were never given the way. They’ve been training for years doing the best they could with what they had, unfortunately somehow down the line they were jipped out on what they were given. So they needed a lot of work, more than we could have possibly helped them with in a single session, but let me tell you what. These guys and girls were hungry for Haidong Gumdo, they were eager to learn, quick to absorb and very polite. They were just eating up all the info and instruction we could give them and that in and of itself made it all worth it. We did the best we could to help clean them up and give them some new material, and it was a very rewarding seminar. We did a few demonstrations and such towards the end, and all in all I think it was fairly productive and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to go back.

But now for the real story. We were on our way back and stopped at a Sheetz to get something to drink. The three of us walked in and just as we walked through the door we heard someone say “Wow you guys really scare me”… Now were had no idea who said that or to whom so we went in and Sabomnim was like “Was she talking about us” and I was like “Naw I don’t see how or why, we most likely walked right into another conversation.”. So I ran to the restroom real quick and as I was coming out I heard the same cashier say “No really, they are all wearing black and its Daylight!, its just creepy” So I walked back over to Sabomnim and Brian and it just so happened we all had black T-shirts on and I was “Ha, they were talking about us sir”, so we kinda chuckled about it and then went to the front of the store and set down 3 Orange Cream Slurpys on the counter. The cashier just kinda looked at us and I was like “Oh yea, we are some pretty scary guys coming in here and getting some slushies, we’re living on the edge baby”. It was pretty funny at the time and we were laughing about it for at least the next hour.
